In a history, Caliph Uthman bin Affan wanted to give a number of assets to Abdullah bin Masud and his sons.
However, Abdullah bin Masud refused and explained to Uthman that he and all his sons were not afraid of poverty.He said that he and his son had carried out a practice that had been taught by the Prophet ﷺ.
“Is Amirul Mukminin afraid that my sons will be poor?
"I have told them to read Surah Al Waqiah every night," said Abdullah bin Masud when he was sick before he died.Then Abdullah conveyed the words of the Prophet ﷺ that he had heard:مَنْ قَرَأَ سُوْرَةَ الْواقِعَةِ كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ لَمْ تُصِبْهُ فَا قَةٌ أَبَدًا"Whoever reads Surah Al Waqiah every night, he will not suffer from poverty forever" (HR.
Abu Yala and Ibnu Asakir)In another source, Sheikh Wahbah Az Zuhaili in Tafsir Al Munir narrated by Anas.وْرَةُ الْواقِعَةِ سُوْرَةُ الْغِنَى فَاقْرَؤُوْهَا وَعَلَّمُوْه َا أَوْلَادَكُمْ“Surat Al Waqiah is a letter of wealth.
So read Surah Al Waqiah and teach it to your children" (HR.
Ibnu Murdawaih)In Tafsir Nur Ats-Tsaqalayn, Imam Jafar Ash-Sadiq explains "Whoever reads surah Waqiah on Friday night, he will be loved by Allah SWT, loved by humans, will not see misery, poverty, have his needs fulfilled, and be kept away from world disease; "This surah is part of Amirul Mukimins companions, which for him has a privilege that is unmatched by the others."2.
Get IntercessionA Muslim who is diligent and always practices Surah Al-Waqiah will receive intercession in the afterlife.
As narrated by Imam Muslim, Rasulullah ﷺ said: "Whoever longs for heaven and its nature, then read surah Al-Waqiah, and whoever wants to see the nature of hell, then read surah As-Sajadah."3.
